These next few pages are the real me. My work is about things I love and the details we are often to busy to stop and see. Horses and dogs are my favorites. I love the textures and the colors in their coats. I prefer a different viewpoint when possible to see more individual personality and expression by capturing the subject in a natural, not- posed moment.
I received a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the University of Evansville. My specialty in those days was abstract landscapes. These works sometimes suggested aerial views, thick with texture and subtle natural colors, playing warms and cools against each other in a very organic framework. I frequently went on site to start paintings, tramping through the woods in the rain or standing on a rock pile in the stripper pits near here. Much of my inspriration came from riding my horse all over this area. I did raked acrylics, washy spattered watercolors and textural oils. I will always have a love of landscape, with it’s spectacular sunsets, soft fog, and nature’s light shows!
I had been drawing horses since childhood so it was a natural move for me to resume a few years later but with a new perspective. I took what I learned from my college work into this familiar old area that I was passionate about and started drawing horses again. When I became involved in the world of purebred dogs, my friends started asking for portraits of their dogs which started an ongoing pet portrait interest.
I currently work in oils, soft pastels, prisma-colored pencil, and pencil and photography. Much of this work is now available in notecards and prints although original works are often for sale as well as private commissions.
I will post new work on this page from time to time. Unless marked NFS, most of this work is available for purchase. Enjoy!
